First Education Experience Program (FEEP)

The First Education Experience Program (FEEP) allows undergraduate and graduate students to explore education as a possible career path through real-world experiences and seminars. As a FEEP student you will learn first-hand about the education field by spending time in local PreK-12 schools or other education settings.

FEEP helps you gain and apply academic knowledge through civic engagement with communities and requires you to complete a service learning project. This course is a required prerequisite for several undergraduate licensure programs in education and is open for students who want to explore non-classroom education settings.

Anna Alvarez: Hi Buckeye nation.
My name is Ana Alvarez.

I am currently a junior here at The Ohio State University majoring  in Special Education. While there are many reasons that  education wa s one of my first choices to choose as a major, I  decided on Special Education because teaching is not only  about teaching students what is in a book and what isn't.

It's  about letting students grow and being that guide to helping them  grow physically, academically and emotionally.
One of the many  things that I love about OSUs educational program is the FEEP  program.

FEEP is the First Educational Experience Program  where students are allowed to go into classrooms and take on real  life scenarios inside of a classroom basically just  co-teaching along the way.

I believe FEEP was incredibly  valuable to my learning experience, because I decided  from then what I wanted to see in my own classroom and how I  wanted to be as an educator and my future career.

Something that  helped me grow along the way while doing FEEP was definitely  understanding that not everything is going to go by the  book, you're going to encounter different scenarios where you're  going to have to learn to tackle social  injustices and equity.

This I learned a lot from the seminars we had in FEEP.

Every  week we go through different seminars with different types of  topics that are going to build on to that future career
experience.

The number one thing that I will remember from my  FEEP experience is that it confirmed that I wanted to be an  education major and that I wanted to be the best teacher  that I could be in my future career.

So I am incredibly  grateful for going through this process and understanding  everything that needs to happen in my classroom and how I need  to be as a future teacher.

Speaker 1:
Hi, my name is Anukriti Tayal  and I am a fourth year  student double majoring in English and economics at The  Ohio State University, I actually first took FEEP  because it was required.

That was one of the best things I've  gotten to do in the last four years.

I've always loved  learning. And I've always been really passionate about  education, and FEEP  was a really great way to learn how to  use that and implement that by learning how to create an  engaging classroom, working on class activities, understanding  lesson planning, connecting with students, and also learning  about the educational system from a greater standpoint,  through seminars.

And within the classroom, I was able to visit  other schools and recognize some of the disparities that exist  within the educational system. And we talked about that in our  lectures as well.

All of this experience was in a way, life  changing for me because it set me on the path to where I am now  about to graduate and teach in a different city, which is crazy  to think about right now.

And so I I highly recommend FEEP to  anyone who's interested because even if you walk away, not  wanting to teach, you will always always remember the  connections you have with your students and what you've learned  about the education system and the way it impacts people, and  how to work with people and leadership skills.

And so I'll  never forget my FEEP experience. And I think if you have the  chance to enroll in feed, you should absolutely take it  especially if you are passionate about education.

It will change  your life in some way or another.
